1-2 TPH Integrated Poultry & Livestock Feed Production Line – Africa
1-2 TPH Poultry & Livestock Feed Production Line – Africa
Project Overview
This 1-2 TPH feed production line was custom-engineered for an African agribusiness client seeking a reliable animal feed manufacturing plant to serve both local farms and the growing commercial feed market. As a complete feed processing line, this system integrates grinding, mixing, pelletizing, cooling, and packaging into one streamlined workflow — making it an ideal turnkey feed plant solution for those planning to enter the animal feed manufacturing industry or expand existing farm operations.
Complete Process Flow – From Raw Material to Finished Bags
Our small scale feed mill solution follows a logical, efficient sequence. The entire feed production line from grinding to packaging is divided into four key stages, each equipped with high-performance machinery and engineered for low maintenance, energy efficiency, and consistent output quality.
Stage 1: Raw Material Grinding & Mixing Process
The first stage of this poultry feed pellet line begins with raw material intake. Grains such as maize, soybean, and cassava chips are fed into the receiving hopper, then passed through a permanent magnetic separator to remove ferrous contaminants. The clean material enters the hammer mill for feed, where interchangeable screens (1.5–6.0 mm) allow precise control over particle size for different species — from fine mash for chicks to coarser grinds for cattle.
The ground material is transported via a screw conveyor system and bucket elevator conveying to an overhead storage bin. A batching scale / weighing system ensures accurate proportioning of major ingredients and micro-additives, with an accuracy of ±0.2%. The batch then drops into a double shaft paddle mixer, achieving a mixing uniformity coefficient (CV) of less than 5% within 2–3 minutes — ensuring every mouthful of feed contains balanced nutrition.
A dust collection system connected to the grinding chamber captures fine particles and returns them to the main flow, reducing waste and keeping the working environment clean. The finished mash is stored temporarily in a bin, ready for either direct powder feed production or the pelletizing stage.
Stage 2: Conditioning & Pelletizing Process
From the mash bin, material is vertically lifted by a bucket elevator conveying system into a steam conditioning system. Here, controlled steam injection (0.2–0.4 MPa) raises the mash temperature to 70–95°C, improving starch gelatinization and pellet durability. This conditioning step is critical for producing high-quality poultry feed pellets and livestock feed production equipment users consistently praise for its reliability.
The conditioned mash is then force-fed into a ring die pellet mill — the heart of this feed pelletizing process. With interchangeable die hole sizes ranging from 2.0 mm to 8.0 mm, the mill can produce pellets for chicken feed production, pig feed processing, cattle feed manufacturing, and even aquaculture feed line applications. The motor power (37–55 kW) and variable-frequency drive ensure stable operation even with varying raw material moisture levels. A secondary magnetic trap at the pellet discharge chute protects downstream equipment from any metal fragments.
Stage 3: Counterflow Cooling & Crumbling Process
Hot pellets exiting the pellet mill are immediately elevated to a counterflow cooler — a vertical design where pellets move downward against an upward stream of ambient air. This counterflow cooler reduces pellet temperature to within 3°C of room temperature and lowers moisture content by 2–4%, preventing cracking and spoilage during storage. The cooler's gentle air flow ensures uniform cooling without surface hardening.
For clients producing starter feed, an optional crumbler / crumbling process follows the cooler. The crumbler uses corrugated rollers (gap adjustable 0.5–3.0 mm) to break large pellets into smaller particles, creating crumble feed for starter chicks or piglets. A bypass gate allows whole pellets to skip this stage when producing adult animal feed.
A vibrating screener then grades the cooled pellets, removing fines and oversized particles. The screener ensures that only properly sized pellets proceed to the next stage, while regrind material is returned to the grinding section — maximizing raw material utilization.
Stage 4: Final Screening & Automatic Packaging Process
The finished pellets are lifted one final time by a bucket elevator conveying system to a feed screening and grading unit, which removes any powdery residues that may have formed during storage. This final quality check guarantees clean, dust-free product ready for market.
The clean pellets then enter an automatic bagging and sewing system. The automatic packaging scale for feed bags 50kg (also adjustable for 10–50 kg bags) delivers accurate filling with a precision of ±0.1%. Filled bags are conveyed to a sewing head for sealing, then moved along a roller conveyor to the palletizing area. This entire automatic bagging and sewing line operates at 3–4 bags per minute, supporting both retail and bulk commercial distribution.
Dual-Product Capability – Powder Feed & Pellet Feed
A standout feature of this complete feed processing line is its ability to produce both pelleted and powder feeds. By bypassing the pellet mill, the system can directly package the mixed mash as powder feed production — a cost-effective option for farmers who prefer mash feeding. This flexibility makes it a versatile small to medium feed plant suitable for diversified agricultural operations.
